Here at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Snyder and Company, we’re more than just realtors. Each month we like to take a moment to shine a light on one of our magnificent agents. This month’s agent spotlight is Dave Cortright!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Royal Oak, MI and after college moved out to San Diego, CA. Four and a half years later I was transferred to Dallas, TX with the company I worked for. Then in 1991, my wife and I decided to relocate back to Michigan with our two children so we could be close to our family again.
What do you enjoy the most about living in the Greater Ann Arbor area?
Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities are a great place to live. You pretty much can drive North, West or South and be in the country within minutes. Ann Arbor has a lot of culture and many fine establishments and venues but if you want to go to a sporting event or big concert in Detroit or the suburbs it’s all within a reasonable hour or less of drive time. After having lived in some big urban areas I don’t miss the endless traffic jams.
Tell us a bit about yourself and family.
I have two children that are both young adults and I’m blessed to have two grand children. They all live nearby so I consider myself blessed. I really enjoy spending time with my grand children.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to read novels and enjoy the great outdoors and all it has to offer. I enjoy golf, fishing and for that matter just about anything you can do on a lake. Michigan is a very beautiful state and when my schedule allows I love to take weekend trips up north. I also enjoy playing the guitar and shooting pool. I have a few old friends from high school and we love to get together and play all the old stuff from the 60’s and 70’s.
How long have you been a real estate agent?
I have been working in real estate for 16 years now, 12 of which have being here at BHHS Snyder & Company.
What do you like best about working in real estate?
I have never regretted my decision of becoming a Realtor. I like the life of being self employed and thoroughly love helping my clients buy and sell homes. I enjoy all aspects of the business and I’m happiest when I’m engaged with my clients. I still enjoy the excitement and thrill of finding first time home buyers their first home. I own four rental properties myself and consider myself very knowledgeable about evaluating homes and working through the home buying or selling experience. Prior to real estate I was as a human resources manager. This experience gave me untold experience with negotiating contracts, conflict resolution as well as so much more practical business experience that I draw from in my everyday Realtor life.
Describe your favorite memory of working with a client.
I have so many fond memories of working with past clients that it would be hard to have a favorite. The thing about real estate is you become very close with your clients and form friendships. Unfortunately, their deal gets closed and then you’re on to the next adventure.
What is the one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home today?
The real estate market is always changing. After living and working through the great mortgage meltdown of 2008 if I learned anything, it is that you have to roll with the changes and stay on top of the changing market conditions to succeed. Today with our continued historically low interest rates it is still a great time to buy. And now that we have recovered from the dreadful years following the market crash, home values have finally rebounded and now is also a very good time to sell.
